This June, I spent a wonderful midweek in Kraków, a city that seamlessly combines history and modernity. My journey began with a private walking tour through the historic inner city, guided by an experienced local. I then visited the Wawel Royal Castle, to be found on Wawel Hill overlooking the Vistula River. This iconic site, once the residence of Polish kings, is steeped in history and architectural beauty. Nearby, I also got to visit the stunning Wawel Cathedral, a mix of Gothic and Baroque styles that has witnessed royal coronations and burials for centuries.
The next day, I took peaceful walks along the river; the water was so high that I had the feeling it might soon, overflow its riverbanks, and wandered through the vibrant streets of the Old Town and Jewish Quarter. Between shopping and exploring, I discovered lots of great small shops and bites to fill my stomach. Midweek, I indulged in a relaxing spa day—a perfect way to recharge (and one I definitly felt I needed during this short get away)
On my final day, I visited the Stained Glass Museum and created my own piece of glass art.
In the museum I got to join a walking tour and what turned out to be a workshop for one to make a cute suncatcher. It turned out so lovely. The museum also had a small part right down the stairs where you enter, which you can visit for free.
Throughout my stay, I enjoyed delicious food and was captivated by how the city beautifully showcases its old and new parts. Kraków left a lasting impression with its rich culture, history, and warm atmosphere—a perfect destination for any traveler.
